While GM was hoping that the new Corvette Stingray and Z06 models would garner a lion’s share of the press this year, they may have got more than they bargained for. With a sinkhole swallowing several irreplaceable Corvettes, the National Corvette Museum has been in the news almost daily for the past couple of months. With the last of the lost Corvettes recovered though, the Corvette Museum can look forward, and that starts with the 2014 Callaway Corvette.

Callaway chose the NCM to debut their new supercharged take on the 21st century Stingray, and they certainly didn’t disappoint, producing a car that, at least on paper, rivals GM’s own 2015 Z06. For Callaway fans, it’s like a second Christmas.

The heart of the 2014 Callaway Corvette is a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 engine, courtesy of an Eaton TVS supercharger and a special intake manifold built with a broad torque band in mind. To cap it all off is a triple-element intercooler that significantly lowers air inlet temperatures, forcing more air into the same space, and more air means more power, plain and simple.

Official numbers aren’t settled on yet, but Callaway is confident they’ll deliver in excess of 620 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, matching the 2015 Corvette Z06 in terms of raw power. But while the Z06 doesn’t arrive on dealer lots until next summer, the Callaway Corvette can be had as soon as this summer, putting this supercharged supercar in your hands that much sooner.
