2014 C7 Corvette Stingray is Now Available in Gran Turismo 5

[1]

January 13, 2013 was quite a busy day for us in the automotive media. On that day, the 2014 Corvette Stingray was unveiled to the public, and the reaction was immense! It was the new Corvette after all, and after three years of teases, rumors, spy photos and general nonsense, we finally got to see it in all of it’s glory.

Even the video game/simulator, Gran Turismo, was in on the frenzy. Back in November, Gran Turismo’s parent company, Polyphony Digital, released a camouflaged  C7 for it’s online players to download [2]. Sort of a tease of a tease, really. Now, the wraps come off and an update to the Playstation 3 game title reveals the Stingray in all its glory.

The C7 is now available in GT5. We would rather have the real thing...

According to GM’s media site [4], over 500,000 players tried their hand behind the “wheel” of the camo’d C7. Chevrolet and Polyphony collaborated to bring the new Corvette to life, giving the game’s players a real-life experience.

Despite last night’s launch, none of the performance numbers are set in stone just yet. All we know for sure is that the Stingray’s LT1 is producing an “estimated 450 HP & 450 lb-ft of torque,” the car runs a 0-60 sprint in “under four seconds,” and that it pulls “over 1 lateral G” in the corners.

As usual, this is GM’s way of downplaying the car’s performance before it’s actually launched – presumably to hide the real numbers from its competitors. Even the price has yet to revealed as of this writing. Chris Perry, Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing went on record saying, “Getting behind the wheel of the all-new Corvette Stingray – the most powerful and sophisticated standard Corvette ever – is sure to be a thrilling experience. Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience the day after the Corvette Stingray’s world debut.”
