This 1985 C4 Corvette isn’t really a “barn find” in its truest sense, but it has been out of circulation for a while. Owner Dennis G. wants to sell his ’85, and judging from the pictures and description, it could be a clean, mostly original car, considering it has only 37,165 miles.
This Vette is red with a graphite grey interior, which could mean leather seats but the seller only says the car has “all the options” except for two tone paint and California emissions. The car appears quite clean on the exterior, although somewhat dusty from sitting on the rack since 2009. The seller also says the car is clean underneath and doesn’t leak.
There were many comments on this car, and some were very relevant. The seller says the original Bose stereo system has been replaced (but is included with the car) with a Kenwood touch screen system. The Bose system had no low-end bass, and one blogger commented that this was common to put in more powerful and better sounding aftermarket systems.
However, buyer beware of hastily made wiring connections from “quicky” sound shops, especially with alarm systems like the Viper security and remote starter system on this Corvette. They are well known for their glitches.
This red Corvette features a L98 5.7-liter with the first year Tuned Port fuel injection sporting 230 hp, and an automatic transmission making it a fun ride to have for long cruises and zipping around town, but it won’t draw many looks. It’s not that they’re not nice cars to own and drive, and this Corvette would be a great daily driver, but the low horsepower ’80s vehicles just haven’t made much of a splash in the collector’s or resale market, with only a few notable exceptions.
The owner is asking $14,500. This is a pretty high and some might say unrealistic price for this old of a car even with the relatively low mileage, and let’s face it, the C4 is probably the least desired Vette era. Most of the comments felt that this car isn’t worth the high asking price, and many similar cars in comparable condition can be had for about half the price.
Yes, the car is a survivor, but it’s simply not old enough yet to make simply surviving double the value. However, all it takes is the right buyer at the right time. Would you buy this car for 14 grand?
