SEMA 2016: Eaton Introduces New TVS R2650 Supercharger

The supercharger gurus at Eaton brought some good news to SEMA with a new addition to it’s TVS supercharger platform, the big daddy TVS R2650. It’s the largest supercharger/rotating group ever offered by Eaton with a laundry list of improvements to increase efficiency and output at the upper RPM range.

According to Eaton, “The new, optimized higher twist, 4-lobe rotor design is 15 percent larger than its predecessor – the TVS R2300 – and flows 25 percent more air. The R2650 features 170-degree twist lobes, which shorten the rotor lead to help maintain peak efficiency at higher speeds and pressure ratios, an optimized length-over-diameter ratio improves sealing, larger bearings and thicker timing gears enhances durability, and pressure relief ports in the bearing plate reduces input power.

“We took the proven TVS technology with its broad operating efficiencies and created a larger design with the R2650 in order to generate more airflow in the upper RPM range without compromising low to mid-range performance,” said Brian Contat, product director, Boosting, Eaton Vehicle Group. “Our aftermarket distributors now have a very dynamic product that will allow them to deliver outstanding performance for the street and track. We can’t wait to see what they will do with this innovative rotating assembly. This new design is going to create huge horsepower in the performance aftermarket arena.”

Improvements of the R2650 versus the R2300 include:

  • 15 percent larger (2650cc vs. 2300 cc);
  • 25 percent more air flow at 18,000 rpm and 14 psi boost (2.0 Pressure Ratio);
  • Almost 6 percent more efficient; and,
  • 18 percent less input power required.

“The R2650 supercharger has been in development for over two years and tested for over 2,500 hours using SAE standards,” said Matt Swartzlander, senior specialist, Boosting, Eaton Vehicle Group. “Like all Eaton rotating assemblies, the R2650 is validated to OEM specifications, so we are confident that no other aftermarket supercharger can match its durability.

Probably unknown to many outside the auto industry, 100+ year old Eaton is the leading power management company in the world with 95,000 employees and sales of 20.9 billion dollars. Who knew?
