SEMA 2016: Dynotech Driveshafts Transfer Balanced Power

 11

When it comes to pushing the power to the wheels, balanced driveshafts are key. For Dynotech Driveshafts, balance is not an afterthought. Imbalance in a driveshaft causes vibration at speed, which can lead to other problems and failures. Dynotech focuses on balance during the build and with high speed adjustments after.

According to Steve Raymond, General Manager at Dynotech, “What sets us apart is the fact that we start our balance process when we start our build process. We look at individual components for balance then we integrate them all together to make a finished product.”

The company, based in Clawson, Michigan, has been building balanced shafts since 1923, when it produced OEM parts for General Motors. It has since developed numerous shafts, incorporating different heavy-duty and lightweight materials for its customers.

“Vibration is the leading problem with most driveshafts. A driver will get up to high speed and pick up a vibration—that robs power and efficiency,” explains Raymond. “Vibration will also prematurely wear out other components including the tail housing, the transmission and ring and pinion bearings.”

Once finished, the shafts are again balanced at 5,000 rpm up to 8,000 rpm depending on the application. Dynotech’s shafts can be found in everything from offshore boats to dragsters, Mom and Pop street rods. They are one of the leading driveshaft manufacturers in NASCAR and NHRA. Just this week, six trucks qualified for the 2016 Baja 1000 equipped with Dynotech driveshafts.
