SEMA 2015: Vintage Air Offers Upgraded Parts For Your Classic

IMG_9590

When you think of air conditioning for classic cars, Vintage Air is probably the first company that crosses your mind. When you think about accessory drive systems, Vintage Air might not be first to cross your mind, but we’re here to let you know that they should be considered.

The folks at Vintage Air develop all of its products around enthusiast needs, so their Front Runner engine accessory drive is a quality addition to any vehicle. But like any good project car, nothing is ever really finished, and so is the case with the Front Runner. IMG_9737 The latest trend in automotive customization relies heavily on the use of electronics, and according to Rick Love of Vintage Air, “What we have noticed over the last couple of years, is that people are adding more accessories to their cars that are continually increasing the draw on the electrical system and the alternator.” Love continues, “Items like high-output ignition systems, electric fans and fuel pumps, and especially some of the high-end sound systems, really place a burden on the charging system.”

In a successful effort to combat this overdraw of electrical power on the charging system, Vintage Air developed a new alternator that mounts to its past and present Front Runner accessory drive kits. IMG_9586This new, one-wire Proline alternator is a proprietary casting that is designed specifically to attach to the Front Runner drive system. Since overcoming electronic draw was the main reason for making the alternator, this engine mounted “battery charger” features a whopping 170-amp output during mid-to-high RPM use, and at idle, it still produces 120 amps. There not many accessories on the market that can overpower this baby. Vintage Air realizes that extra juice could cause issues with some older factory wiring, so they also include a length of four-gauge wire, terminal ends, and a crimp tool to make the connections.

If you’re running a Vintage Air Front Runner system on your Chevrolet or Ford engine, these new single-wire alternators are available in a natural, polished, or chrome finish. The one-wire hookup makes installation a breeze.
