SEMA 2015: C&R Intercoolers Unlock Cold-Air Potential

IMG_3561Cooling systems are some of the most easily overlooked investments in a high performance engine. Until your existing cooling is insufficient, you don’t go looking for new options unless you know the potential benefits of doing so.

We are all in search of more horsepower and extending the longevity of our engines. By treating your engine to C&R aluminum coolers you can unlock the potential for both. C&R has several new products we were excited to see at the 2015 SEMA Show.

IMG_3558Among the more exciting products are the inline intercoolers for racing applications with limited space. According to Paul Hammond of C&R, the barrel intercoolers are available to support power outputs from 400 up to 1,500 horsepower.

“Compressed gas goes in, and water goes through it via an electric pump to a low-temp radiator which extracts the heat, and gives you a lower temperature intake charge,” says Hammond.

Included in the barrel intercooler line is a model specifically designed for the drag racer who needs to get every bit of heat possible out of their air charge for a limited time, say one run.

“For the drag racer, we have a bigger version that uses dry or regular ice. You pack it full before the event and it will get your ambient air temperatures below freezing. There is a vent for the dry ice as it turns into a gas, or if you use regular ice, it has a drain for water,” explains Hammond.

These intercoolers bring the technology of drag race, liquid-cooled intercoolers and reduce it into a compact unit for the enthusiast to use in other applications. When there is no airflow for a conventional intercooler, these barrel units can be used as a substitute. For more information, contact C&R using the resources below.
