SEMA 2015: Corvette Performance to the Max by Lingenfelter

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 9.47.40 AMLingenfelter Performance Engineering has been a worldwide recognized brand in the performance engineering industry for over 40 years.

Founded by the late John Lingenfelter, a racing legend, the company offers world-class engine building, engine and chassis tuning, component development and installation, and services to manufacturers, aftermarket and OE equipment suppliers.

This year at the Sema Show in Las Vegas, we had a great time catching up with Ken Lingenfelter and Mike Copeland, vice president and general manager. Lingenfelter was the first to introduce us to his team, and in turn, to their exciting new Corvette performance packages and products.

Copeland gave us the tour and introduced us to Lingenfelter’s Nitrous Controller Systems with two stages of fully independent progressive fuel and nitrous control.

“This device will trigger the programming inside the ECM and richen the fuel injectors when you’re on the nitro, letting you run a dry nitrous system and giving you up to 500 horsepower based on the injector size and the pump in the car. This is a new part that we are releasing here,” Copeland stated.

Nitrous Control Cente”This system lets you run a dry nitrous and commands the injectors to add the additional fuel needed to support the nitrous system.

To help increase horsepower and reduce pressure drops, Lingenfelter also offers a high-flow supercharger front inlet cover that reduces restriction at the inlet and increases boost.

Jason Haines, lead engineer, introduced us to thenext product, the Temperature Based PWM Output Module.

“This product is especially of interest for Corvette enthusiasts. Newer Corvettes are equipped with variable speed fans,” Haines said. “These fans are incredible in terms of their airflow capacity and they are controlled by the vehicle’s ECM.”

“It is not easy to install these new fans on older Corvettes because they lack the electronic controller to manage the fans’ variable speed controls. This box will control those fans with any GM, Bosch, or other single temperature sensor, allowing you to add these modern fans to older vehicles,” said Haines.

Whether a 1950s or 1990s model and everything in between, this device allows the driver to output the fans for a more controlled cooling effect, especially if the vehicle is equipped with a turbocharger or supercharger.

“When the old fans came on they generated a big electrical spike, and they were either on or off. The voltage would drop and lights would dim when the fan turned on. The other great feature of this controller, is the variable speed fans, the electrical load is also variable, so no more spikes,” Haines said. “The variable speed fans correct this situation because the electrical load happens gradually.” He also stated that the system is self-protecting and does not require a fuse.

“Don’t get me wrong,” he was quick to add, “There is a fuse in the system but it is to protect it from mis-wiring and shorts. So, basically the fuse is solely for circuit protection because the fans are self-protecting.”

Haines also introduced us to a Programmable Clutch and Throttle Position Activation Switch. This device connects to the newer vehicles CAN data and allows the driver to install auxiliary gauges.

“This one is a simplified version,” Haines stated. “There is no way of getting a throttle position signal with the new CAN modules.

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 1.46.23 PMThis controller can read the signal from the CAN module and turn on a switch input to activate the nitrous when the vehicle reaches wide-open throttle. It also provides user-adjustable switched outputs to turn other components on and off.”

Lingenfelter also released a new Overdrive Harmonic Balancer upgrade for the 2009-2020 ZR1 Corvette. This new kit is designed to increase the performance of the supercharged LS9 engine.

The kit can also be used in conjunction with Lingenfelter’s LS9 supercharger pulleys to achieve even higher speeds and boost levels.

Lingenfelter’s also has new performance packages for the 2014 Stingray, and body styling and performance packages for the 2015 C7 and C7 Z06. Stay tuned for more information.

There is no doubt Lingenfelter continues to be at the forefront of automotive performance engineering. Follow the link below for information, pricing, ordering, news, forum and more!Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 10.29.03 AM
