While most of us love adding power to our street machines and larger wheels and / or tires to our off-road vehicles, it is easy to overlook the fact that we should also be equally improving the stopping ability of these cars as not to lose any ability stop compared to factory; and hopefully even improve the braking performance from what it originally was.
We spoke with Brendan Cashman at EBC Brakes who showed us their newest orange Extra Duty pads and explained that, “Our newest brake pad is for trucks and SUVs, and this pad was designed to handle extreme conditions that generate high heat, such as off-roading and towing. We have produced a pad material that has a “GG” friction rating which is one of the highest ratings that can be awarded to a brake pad.”
Brendan continued to explain, “This GG rating is usually seen on brakes that are going to be used for track use, but we’ve made it street friendly as well. Meaning, most high heat pads lack a cold bite, but this pad has a good cold bite while also being able to handle up to 1500 degree Fahrenheit. We have also designed a new shim which is inserted into the caliper’s pistons which creates a nice seal and further deters the chance of getting any squealing or heat transfer back into the caliper.”
While this new pad is sure to be a great seller for those spirited drivers in the trucks and SUVs, it should also work wonders for all of those weekend warriors who are towing heavy loads. Along with these, EBC continues to produce a number of awesome brake pads and rotors for different applications for a number of vehicles. Give their website a look!
