The sixth annual Optima Batteries‘ Ultimate Street Car Invitational is happening this Saturday, November 9, 2013, following the SEMA trade show. If you’re not familiar with the event, it pits some of the best drivers to get behind a wheel and throw their car through the cones. In past years, we’ve seen some great competition, which includes not only speed and agility, but braking and ultimate car control.
This year, there were three groups selected to enter the competition, to be held in Pahrump, Nevada, at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club. But that group got a bit larger when Optima announced their ten “Golden Ticket” winners, all selected from the floor of SEMA 2013 on November 7.
The final list of competitors are:
- William Horan – 2010 Audi R8
- Jonathan Ward – 1950 Chevy Thriftmaster Truck
- Scott Sangpiel – 1993 Mazda RX-7
- Randy Johnson – 1973 Chevy Camaro
- Mark German – 2013 Ford Focus ST-M
- Darrin Nickelson – 1969 Pontiac GTO
- Alan Palmer – 1965 Ford Mustang
- Joe Delgato – 1995 Toyota Supra
- Karl Dunn – 1968 Chevy Camaro
- Ed Moss – 1967 Ford Mustang
And the list of competitors isn’t the only thing growing, as Optima has also announced that the Invitational has expanded to several new locations this year, instead of focusing on any single geographic location as previously outlined:
- Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
- Texas Motor Speedway
- Daytona International Speedway
- Auto Club Speedway
- Road America
- Gateway Motorsports Park
- Portland International Raceway
- Michigan International Speedway
- Sebring International Raceway
- Pittsburgh International Raceway
The Ultimate Street Car Association website was launched today to allow current and future competitors, sponsors, media and fans to communicate and to learn more about upcoming and past events and participants. If you’re thinking about participating, you can use the USCA website to receive more information and to sign up. You will also be able to get a complete rulebook, and the site will include a discussion forum that will be available after the end of 2013.
