SEMA 2012: Powermaster Amps Up Your Ride

[1]You might think there’s not much new under the sun in starters and alternators – it’s a fairly mature field in terms of technology, and until somebody discovers magnetic monopoles [2]and revolutionizes physics, new developments will be incremental rather than astounding.

Of course, how those electrons are created and delivered is another story, and Powermaster [3] is constantly finding new ways to package these essential components so that a wider range of racers and street performance enthusiasts can take advantage of their products. We found out this year at SEMA that they are in the process of completely revamping both their printed catalog and website to make both easier to use with more useful information, and we got a look at a couple of new products that demonstrate how they’re constantly looking for areas where they’re needed.

First up is their new LS starter, shown above. Taking note of the popularity of stock-based LS engine swaps, they’ve come up with a new stock-style starter that’s a big step up from the OEM unit, without the price of a race-spec starter. Weighing in at 7.25 pounds, this new 9109 starter is capable of delivering 1.8 horsepower to the ring gear, and will handle compression ratios up to 11:1 without leaving your wallet flat.

[4]Powermaster also showed us their new Mopar HI AMP alternator, which answers a desire for a stock-appearing alternator that is a direct bolt-in. Available in 115, 150, and 200 amp flavors, this new line can be had in natural, black, polished, or chrome finishes.
