SEMA 2012: Ohio Technical College Provides Educational Training

It’s probably every gearhead’s dream to go to a tech school to learn every mechanical aspect to building the cars that they love. There a quite a few out there, but the one that comes to our mind is the Ohio Technical College (OTC).

Since our school is smaller than others, we can focus more time on each student to help them get a better education. -Tom King

Based out of Cleveland, Ohio,  OTC offers it’s students several different programs in which to excel in and develop their mechanical knowledge and skills. Students can learn a lot in OTC’s automotive programs including Automotive, Diesel, Auto-Diesel, Collision Repair & Refinishing, Classic Car Restoration, and our favorite, High Performance & Racing.

They also have other programs that include Welding & Fabrication, an OTC Tool Purchase Program, a Powersport Institute, and manufacturer programs, like the Specialty Programs with BMW, MINI, and Volvo. The BMW STEP program offers students the ability to learn BMW vehicles from front to back and receive a factory certificate in the process that will help them get a job at a Bimmer dealership after they graduate.

We stopped at their booth during this year’s SEMA show, and spoke with Tom King about all of their programs and what one could expect when coming to one of OTC’s two locations, which includes their PRI branch that specializes in off-road motorsports.

“Since our school is smaller than others, we can focus more time on each student to help them get a better education,” Tom King related to us. “We might not have the big budgets like the other schools, but rather, we like to put our students first.”

Sounds good to us. Before we shook Tom’s hand and left, he was sure to point out the motorcyles that was in their booth. “These motorcycles were built by our students at our PSI branch. They represent what our students can do.”

  • Multiple classes to choose from
  • Smaller school, with more student focus
  • Helps students seek employment in the automotive industry
