SEMA 2012: Katzkin Brings User Interaction to a New Level

[1]

Quality in design is something that the premier leather interior gurus over at Katzkin [2] take very seriously. So we took the opportunity at SEMA to sit down with Chief Designer, Dave O’Connell and check out some of the cool new things in store for the coming year.

With over 25 years as an OEM designer for Mitsubishi, O’Connell brings with him more than just an eye for detail. He tells us, “The exterior/interior relationship of a vehicle is a lot like dating and marriage. At first, you fall for the beauty and elegance of the exterior – but as time passes, it’s the interior that you have to live with.” He jokingly shared his insight as we began to discuss their hot new Interior Selector [3].

This new “interior designer” can help consumers and automotive enthusiasts from every genre design their very own custom interior online, before even visiting their local authorized Katzkin dealer/installer.

[5]There are three levels of customization available after selecting the make and model of the vehicle; Premium, Custom and Limited. Premium offers leather designs to compliment the color options available on each vehicle application. Custom allows a step up into some more insert and color options, along with more stitching and customization options to add some more personalization to the comfort of your interior. While the Limited line allows virtually endless options of colors, inserts, stitching, perforations, and more – giving you ultimate control from start to finish.

Chatting with Dave we were able to get a sneak peek into the design excellence and engineering that went into the development of this new selector. His insight and OEM Studio Design background allowed for seamless integration of exterior design elements and color pallets to be perfectly matched with interior options for most popular makes and models.
