SEMA 2011: Spectre Performance’s Muscle Car Cold Air Intake Systems

The introduction of fresh, cold air to the engine guarantees incredible power gains. A reduction of 100 degrees in the incoming air will result in a 18% increase in horsepower.

The common thinking is that cold air makes more power, but is that really true? Well we ran into our friends at Spectre Performance at SEMA 2011 and they showed us some of their new Muscle and Modern Muscle Cold Air Intakes, and explained to us how it can help make some serious power!

Spectre’s muscle cold air intakes not only look awesome but are built to be vehicle specific and give a great custom look to your application. But the question everyone is wanting answered is just how much power can I expect to get by attaching a cold air intake on to my muscle car?

Spectre explained to us, that incoming air heated by the radiator, engine, and exhaust, can exceed temperatures of 200 degrees! For every 10 degrees reduction in incoming air temperature, the engine gains 1.5-2% in both torque and horsepower.

According to Spectre, the introduction of fresh, cold air to the engine guarantees incredible power gains. A reduction of 100 degrees in the incoming air will result in a 18% increase in horsepower. Or for a 300 horsepower engine, it will lead to an increase of 53HP!

The system in their SEMA booth was the cold air intake that is available for LS Swaps. There were three versions of the LS swap kit. These kits are available as a dual kit, driver side kit, or passenger side kit. The muscle car air intakes are available for the following model:

  • ’67-’81 Camaro
  • ’64-’72 Chevelle
  • ’63-’65 Chevy II
  • ’66-’74 Nova
  • ’58-’72 Biscayne/Caprice/Impala
  • ’58-’81 Chevy Pick-up
  • ’64 1/2 – ’70 Mustang

Of course this was just a small taste of everything that Speed by Spectre has to offer. To see their complete line of products visit their home on the web at SpectrePerformance.com
