SEMA 2011: Sherwin-Williams’ Planet Color Automotive Finishes

[1]

The Planet Color line of paints from Sherwin Williams are multi-dimensional and shift colors in different light settings.

A great paint job is a product of two key ingredients – proper preparation, and the right materials. While you are on your own with the prep work, the good folks at Sherwin-Williams [2] can help out with the proper materials to make your paint job one to be proud of.

We spoke with Sherwin-Williams here at SEMA about their Planet Color line of paints and finishes [3], as well as their AWX Waterborne Refinishing System. The Planet Color line consists of over 300 formulated custom colors, as well as a literally unlimited color palette and several options for effect additives (high metallic or flat), making sure that you can get just the right color for your ride. But before you lay down your color, you’ll need a quality primer, like Sherwin-Williams SpectraPrime High-Build Primer (which is also 2.1 VOC Compliant.) And after you spray your color, lock it in and make it shine with Ultra 7000 clear coat with Ure-Flex technology, that can dry into a sandable finish in an incredibly short time of just 15 minutes.

Sherwin-Williams AWX Waterborne Refinish Systems are a great solution for people who are looking for a more environmentally friendly paint system that still behaves like traditional solvent based paints. AWX Waterborne paints comply with 3.5 VOC regulations; very important considering the increasingly strict environmental laws coming online throughout the country.

Also, be sure to check out the Planet Color All-Star Charity Challenge on Facebook [3] – where Sherwin Williams has pitted NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer against each other in a Chevy vs. Ford Challenge, and a few lucky grand prize winners will get the chance to paint a Mustang or Camaro with the drivers, that will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson for each of the drivers’ charity foundations.
