SEMA 2011: New Light-Weight Street and Strip Calipers From SSBC

In addition to their new “V8” calipers [1], SSBC [2] has a new line of street and strip calipers called the Comp Series that they are debuting here at SEMA 2011 [3]. The Comp Series calipers are perfect for cars that see a lot of trips down the drag strip, but are also occasionally driven on the street. They are a lightweight, 4-piston design that allows for 20% more brake pad surface area, and is 25% thicker to stand up to the abuse of street driving and strip duty. The calipers also feature dual pad pins to help keep the noise down. The Comp Series calipers are meant for cars under 3,500 pounds, which should easily cover most drag racing cars, and light street cars like a first gen Camaro or early Mustang.

SSBC's new Comp Series Calipers area a great light-weight solution for cars that split their time between the street and the track.

Michael Jonas of SSBC says,“These calipers are great because they will work with the 15-inch  skinnies, but if the guys got 15×8 or 15×7 wheels that he’s using for the street, he can go ahead and swap his tires at the track and drive home knowing that these calipers have enough stopping power to drive on the street as well as drive on the track.”

The Comp Series brakes are recommended for vehicles under 3,500 pounds - covering most street rods and lightened street/strip cars.

One of the great things about the Comp Series is that they use off-the-shelf pads, allowing you to choose a compound that is right for your application. Check out SSBC’s website [2] for more info on all their new products.
