Despite all of the money that we car enthusiasts pour into our engines with expensive aftermarket rotating assemblies, cylinder heads, and the like to create more horsepower, more torque, and sometimes even improved fuel economy, it’s actually one of the more affordable necessities that your engine lives and dies by. And that of course, is your oil. We all know the consequences of putting too many miles on oil or with too little in the engine. But selecting the proper weight and viscosity goes a long way to obtaining an engines performance potential or not.

Here at SEMA, Joe Gibbs Driven Motor Oils [3] is showcasing new high performance oils designed for use in two of the hottest cars on the road and certainly the two hottest here at SEMA: the new 2011-12 Ford Mustang and the fifth-generation V8 Chevrolet Camaro.

The LS30 synthetic 5W-30 oil is designed for high performance LS engines such as the 6.2L LS3 found in the new Camaro SS and 6.2L LSA in the new ZL1. The LS30 uses advanced synthetic based oils to deliver high temperature and high shear protection, and is ideal for LS-based crate engines and supercharged LS engines.

The FR20, likewise, is a synthetic 5W-20 designed for high performance Ford modular engines such as the 5.0L Coyote, 4.6L, and other modular powerplants from the blue oval. Like the LS30, the FR20 has high temperature and and high shear protection, and is truly ideal for supercharged applications.
