And here at the SEMA Show, Garrett has a host of turbochargers for a wide array of applications, including a brand new piece aimed at the hardcore drag racing market.

The GTX5518R is well-suited to the Pro Modified, Outlaw 10.5, Drag Radial, and other extreme racing categories in the NHRA, ADRL, NMCA, NMRA, PSCA, and other Outlaw series. These large frame turbos are outline interchangeable with Garrett’s entire GT55R range of turbochargers and offers 11 percent more flow and 15 percent higher pressure ratio over the previous GT5518R and capable of producing 1,500 horsepower.

These units feature a 118mm exducer and 80mm inducer with a fully machined billet impeller wheel in a housing that is fully burst contained – a great benefit for racers who are producing insane levels of boost.

One of the great feature of the GTX5518R turbo is the burst-containment, which keeps all the parts inside should the internal components fail. According to Garrett's Justin Ocello, the fury inside when this occurs is akin to firing eleven rounds of Remington .350 Magnum shells at the inside of the turbo housing at point blank range.
