SEMA 2011: Brembo North America “Brakes” Out the Good Stuff

[1]

Brembo North America's booth at the 2011 SEMA Show shows off what Brembo does best...freakin' huge brakes.

For 50 years, Brembo [2] has been known the world over as the leader in brake technology and performance, and at this year’s SEMA show we were able to take a look at a few of the products that will move Brembo forward as they start their sixth decade.

Decisions, decisions...Which massive brake system to go with?

Since everyone will be staring at your huge 6-piston calipers, you want your rotors to look just as nice, so Brembo is now offering a new line of discs that are painted using a new ultraviolet light technology meant to offer superior protection against corrosion and rust. Additionally, Brembo has recently expanded their line of OEM replacement brake pads – so now you can equip your car with Brembo technology while retaining stock calipers and discs. Brembo was also showing off the products of their subsidiary company Sabelt at their SEMA booth, with a full display featuring the new STS seat and Sabelt racing suits.  Interestingly enough, we also learned that Sabelt is also a leading producer of child safety seats in Europe. Who’d a thunk it?

The Gran Turismo system features 380mmx34mm two piece floating race inspired rotors.

Of course, what would any Brembo [2] display be without showing off their full line of behemoth binders? We were instantly drawn to the massive Gran Turismo and GT-R brake kits they have on display like gnats to a porch light, both of which feature huge 15-inch rotors, and 4 or 6 piston calipers (the Gran Turismo System can be had with up to 8-piston calipers!)

Careful with if you install the GT-R system on your ride...hit the brakes to hard and you might chip a tooth on the steering wheel...
