PRI 2016: LS Series Kits And Badass Diesel Engines From ARP

The folks at Automotive Racing Products, better known as ARP, have been providing enthusiasts with racing-bred fastener and bolt solutions for nearly half a century now; and today’s example is no different from the company’s original theorem. From forging and machining, to finishing and even packaging/warehousing, every step from conception to final destination is processed in one of two facilities in Southern California by ARP.

We had the opportunity to discuss ARP’s latest innovations with Chris Raschke on the company’s new LS Series Kits, as well as Dan Scheid of Scheid Diesel, who introduced us to this diesel engine on display.

“We have a fastener for just about every engine available,” Chris said. “Our all-new LS kit is extremely unique, as we feature rod bolts, head studs, and more for virtually every Gen III/IV LS series engine around.”

Chris explained that the main LS Series Kits feature rod bolts and head studs primarily, but there are a ton more kits available for just about any bolt you can think of. Essentially, you can build your entire engine using nothing but ARP hardware for virtually everything.

This Cummins diesel engine is 391 cubic-inches and moves more than 150 PSI of boost.

The engine combination features a custom billet aluminum block, polished and balanced Cummins crankshaft, billet steel connecting rods, custom pistons, a billet steel camshaft, and a two-stage triple turbocharger system built with all ARP hardware. The combo has powered the world's fastest diesel dragster, accomplishing a 6.31 second quarter-mile pass at 226 mph.

In regards to the 3,200-horsepower diesel racing engine on display, Dan said, “It takes a lot of specialized items to keep it together, and that’s the main thing–to have durability in our engines whenever we put them together at this power level. Utilizing ARP bolts has been the ultimate for us. Being capable of keeping the engines together, and getting a quality product that we can count on to use for everyday use, and also on the the high-performance end as well.”
