PRI 2014: Brodix Shows Off CNC’d LS3 Cylinder Heads

Brodix brought its A-game to PRI this year, assembling a decent array of some of its finest new products. Among them was the recently launched BP BR 3 cylinder heads for LS engines, utilizing standard LS3 components like the valvetrain and intake manifold while enhancing performance with Brodix’s top-of-the-line machining capabilities.

brodix1There at the show was Jeff Brotherton, who was able to share some of the more intimate secrets of the heads. “What we basically did was take an LS3 and give it the CNC treatment,” said Brotherton. “It’s fully ported, has a 280cc intake port, and can run on either small or large bore applications.”

Standard LS3 heads use 2.165-inch intake valves and 1.59-inch exhaust valves, which the BP BR 3 retains. Where the improvement stems from is Brodix’s state-of-the-art casting techniques that customers have long sought out to replace the stock units.

“All of our castings are very tough,” said Brotherton. “People have come to us for a long time to get engine components that can handle harsh treatment, something that can withstand heat, pressure, and other harmful things that can have a serious impact on their motors.”

As far as the kind of applications the BP BR 3 is meant for, the short answer is that it’s for everybody. “Right now, we just wanted to offer something that was kind of a one-size-fits-all approach,” explained Brotherton. “We do however have some more specialized versions of LS3 heads that are coming around the corner pretty soon.”

Faith in structural integrity is oftentimes the elephant in the room when it comes to figuring out which part is right for an engine build. Thankfully, Brodix is here to put that worry to rest as it continues to manufacture quality components.
