PRI 2010: StopTech Brings Racing Brake Tech To The Street

[1]
The brake components designed for and used by road racing and similar racing applications are optimized for the maximum performance and engineered for the utmost in longevity, encountering more brutal punishment in a short period of time than any other form of track or road going vehicles. But what if you could place a set of these brakes on your car? Well, you can, actually.

The folks at StopTech [2] provide brake kits that are used by many elite road racing organizations across the country and along with their racing kits, they have also brought their racing technology to the street, making it possible to outfit your own ride with brakes much like those seen on American LeMans Series and other like race cars.

[4]StopTech’s Trophy Big Brake kits are essentially racing brakes that have been made street legal, and feature an anti-rattle device around the pads along with a silicone dust boot that keeps the pressure seal clean and protects against direct heat. The forged, fully machined, and weight optimized calipers sport a patented bridge design that creates a solid, stiff  structure to prevent shifting and rotation under braking force.

StopTech produces these in both a four and six piston design, and can be outfitted with as many as 20 different rotor combinations to fit many different car applications. While these kits work quite well with Porsche’s andnother vehicles similar to those found on the racetrack, they will work quite well on many of the popular late model muscle cars, such as the Camaro, Corvette, Challenger, and others.
