PRI 2010: LSM Products LS Engine Heavy Duty Spring Compressor

[1]
Anyone out there in the engine building business that’s tinkered with GM’s LS family of engines is well aware that while valve spring compressors exist for the majority of these powerplants, none can do the trick on all of them, most notably the LS7. That is, until now.

Here at PRI, LSM Racing Products [2] is showcasing their new contoured sprint compressor that works on LS1, 2, 3, 6, 7, L76, and LS9 engines. This tool is the complete solution for spring removal and installation on LS motors, and specs at up to to 500 lbs. of force, although LSM’s Tim Smith indicates it will take more punishment than that. The SC-167 mounts directly to the factory stands on LS1-LS6’s using a specially engineered adapter that won’t damage the stands.

A precision lead Acme lead screw and nut make easy work of compressing heavy duty springs, and the “floating valve angle axis” automatically adjusts for the variance in valve angle. In addition, the contoured springs reliefs on the compressor top allow for easy removal and installation of valve springs. According to Smith, these are long-lasting and much more heavy duty than other LS spring compressors on the market.
